Nappyrootz Art

As I approach my 30th birthday, I realize that over the last 5 years, I've been running from it, trying to slow it down, turn back the hands of time and it wasn't til last week that I understood why. I thought I would have accomplished more. I thought I would have made more money, gotten married, given my daughter a sibling or two and become a full time artist but life happened, I got nervous and I started looking for other ways to support my lifestyle. After all, I had a brand new little one to support and no place or money of my own. I am proud of the me from 5 years ago for making the decision to put my family and our needs first but recently, my creativity has sparked back to life and I've filled my tiny apartment with paintings and drawings that no one has ever seen before!

So, now we are here, 2 months before my 30th birthday, finally making the decision to embrace my truest self and share my creativity with the world. I have watched myself grow and my art style along with me. The maturity I see in my paintings, the boldness to try new mediums and tweak my style by falling in love with elements of art that were previously completely out of my comfort zone has inspired me to host my very first solo art exhibition in honor of making it to 30 years old and all that I've accomplished thus far and will accomplish in the next 30 years.

In this collection of artworks, I really wanted to focus on what being a black person, black woman and a black mother can look like on the more mundane side. I've always had a knack for showing the beauty in the not so pretty parts of life with my artwork whether that be insecurities, heartbreak, grief or depression. You can expect bright, colorful, nature inspired, uplifting, artwork in this collection of 30 pieces both old and new. I seek to bring people together with my artwork in one place to network and commune so please join me at my first solo show to see all that I've been working on. I hope to see you soon!
