Nappily Rooted Art Exhibition

To Callie
This mixed media painting is special to me and it was hard to let it go! To me it is priceless.
This painting transformed as I worked on it for almost two weeks(which at the time was the longest I've worked on a painting before) and everyday it got further away from what I envisioned when I started. It showed me who I am as an artist TODAY. It's the painting that told me to stop playing around and share my art with the world. Yes it told me all of that. I knew that if I let go of this painting, it would just have to be a gift because I'll never think a price is good enough.
When I told my mom 2 months before my birthday that I was thinking about having an art show for my 30th birthday, it was a completely unserious suggestion. I was planning to do nothing. My mom who usually will usually tell me if my ideas are reaching too far, right away was like " yeah that's crazy we don't have a lot of time to plan so we need to sit down and make a pplan so we can get the ball rolling." Im like "wait really?!" Mind you, on this day, I only had one painting done and nothing else that really reflected this particular style of painting, so of course I then told my mom that I should showcase 30 pieces of artwork for my 30th borthday! Every gallery I submitted a proposal to told me no which I expected due to it being so last minute and me being relatively unknown in the art world so I just decided to get a venue.
I painted every morning from 4am-6am, got my daughter to school and painted on my lunch breaks, then went home and painted after my daughter went to bed from around 8pm to midnight or sometimes later. I did this everyday for 2 months and when I tell you I sprouted more gray hairs in those two months than I have in the last 5 years! But it all started with this painting(that is still untitled by the way.)
When I consider the similar struggles that Callie and I have had to over come, the way she has always supported me and my mother especially, the love that pours from her. How she's always ready to be there for her family, her uplifting words, encouraging spirit and that beautiful voice that I've only ever heard her use to serenade the people that she loves, I can not think of a more deserving person!
You have a never replicated, original so you and only you have this painting and I hope that means as much to you as it does to me!
